Fans of the theater will definitely want to check out the Carolina Opry, which has been thrilling locals and visitors alike for the past 25 years. Dubbed "a big hit" by USA Today, the venue offers a number of famous Broadway shows for guests to enjoy. Chief among them is the titular Carolina Opry revue, which combines traditional country music, comedy and dance into a two-hour extravaganza rarely seen outside of Nashville.

More athletic travelers won't be cooped up in their beach house rentals all day, either, as the area has plenty to offer thrill seekers and fitness fanatics. Visitors can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city by taking a hike through Myrtle Beach State Park, an unspoiled preserve along the Grand Strand that offers up more than 312 acres of land just waiting to be explored. Golf is another major draw to the area, and with a number of courses to explore, travelling linksmen should have no trouble booking a tee time. The Myrtle Beach Golf Association recommends that vacationers shoot 18 holes at the Barefoot Resort, which boasts four championship courses that earned it the distinction as the top course in town from Golf Digest Magazine. Other courses worth a look are the Dunes Golf and Beach Club (ranked 48th on GOLF Magazine's "Top 100 Courses You Can Play"), the Ocean Ridge Plantation (whose five different courses match golfers of all skill levels) and the Caledonia Golf and Dish Club (GOLF Magazine's 3rd best course in South Carolina).
