Antigua
Antigua is an island located within the Carribean Sea which has warm, steady winds, a complex coastline of safe harbors, and a protective, nearly unbroken wall of coral reef.
In 1784 the legendary Admiral Horatio Nelson sailed to Antigua and established Great Britain's most important Caribbean base. Over 200 years later the same exceptional characteristics that attracted the Royal Navy would transform Antigua and Barbuda in one of the Caribbean's premier tourist destinations.
The temperatures in Antigua generally range from the mid-seventies in the winter to the mid-eighties in the summer. Annual rainfall average is only 45 inches, making it the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands. The northeast trade winds are nearly constant, flagging only in September, which is close to perfect for the beautiful beaches that are on the coast of Antigua. There are 365 beaches on Antigua, one for each day of the year. Most of the beaches rest inside the calm, protected waters of the island's Caribbean side. All are open to the public, and so the challenge proposed to a visitor is not how to gain access to the beautiful beaches, but simply how to locate the perfect one for you!
With its phenomenal variety of beaches, hills, trails and offshore islands, Antigua is an explorer's paradise. Take tours to its far corners to enjoy solitude and natural beauty. Take time to go on a day long cruise to meet people and venture through the island's centuries old historical sites. The Museum of Antigua and Barbuda is a definite island highlight that no one should miss. This charming museum tells the story of Antigua and Barbuda from its geological birth through the present day.
